HOW TO

How do you apply it?

Using Ghastly is intentionally simple.

Place the dropper over your palm without touching your skin, dispense a full dropper, and apply generously to the face and body. Yes — including around the eyes. Ghastly does wonderful things there.

Never apply with a cotton ball. Your hands allow you to massage the tonic into the skin, which helps it work more effectively.

Take your time massaging. This is a great opportunity to gently stimulate lymphatic drainage, helping reduce puffiness in the face and around the eyes.

Use daily, morning and night. In warmer months, you may use more. In colder, drier months, you may need less tonic and more oil or balm layered on top.

How do you care for it?

 Ghastly Tonics are alive.

  • Shake well before every use
  • Store at room temperature or cooler (maximum 76°F)
  • Keep out of direct sunlight
  • Avoid bathrooms, windowsills, and temperature fluctuations

We don’t use preservatives to force years of shelf life. Your tonic only asks for a little mindfulness in return.

Try not to wear foundation when applying the rest of your makeup, foundation only blocks your synergy with nature. As we breathe out, plants breathe in. We reciprocate that through our skin. Our Epidermis gets some of its oxygen from the air, so it is crucial for cellular respiration not to block your pores with comedogenic emulsifiers! Hence lotion and foundation...

Do you wash it off and what does it do?

No — Ghastly Tonics are leave-on treatments.

They cleanse, tone, and moisturize all at once. Do not rinse off and do not follow with lotions or toners.

If your skin still feels dry due to a compromised skin barrier, layer one of the following after your tonic:

  • Coconut oil
  • Ghastly Conditioning Oil
  • Ghastly non-comedogenic Balms

Washing Your Face

If your face is not dirty and you’re not wearing makeup, a warm water rinse is often enough.

Your natural facial oils are:

  • Your first immune defense
  • A natural sunscreen
  • Home to your skin’s microbiome

Don’t strip them away unnecessarily.

Ghastly Tonics are antioxidant-rich, gently acidic, and antimicrobial — they help clean the skin without disrupting its natural balance.

For times when you do need more cleansing:

  • Use coconut oil or diluted raw honey
  • Remove with a warm microfiber cloth

Both are naturally antimicrobial and far gentler than soap.

Less is more when it comes to skin.

Important Application Notes

  • Always apply tonics to a warm, damp face
  • For best results, apply after a coconut oil cleanse with a warm cloth
  • Use a full dropper for face and neck
  • Do not mix Ghastly Tonics with lotions or toners
If it’s white, don’t use it
  • Ghastly Oils and Balms are designed to be layered safely with tonics

why acv works

WINTER CHANGES

Ghastly Tonics are humectants, meaning they attract and hold moisture in the skin. In dry winter air, humectants need a bit of support.

During colder months:

  • Use Conditioning Oil throughout the day
  • Apply Maximum Enhancing Balm with your tonic
  • On windy days, apply oil or balm alone in the morning, or mix balm and tonic in your palm before applying

The Conditioning Oil is especially helpful on:

  • Lips
  • Around the eyes
  • Cheekbones

It contains plant-based skin brighteners and has a naturally tinted glow from carrot seed and rose oils — a welcome boost in winter.

Supporting Hydration (Inside & Out)

Healthy skin starts internally.

To support hydration:

  • Drink water and herbal teas
  • Steam your face
  • Use warm washcloth compresses
  • Run a humidifier or simmer water on the stove
  • Apply warm tea bags to the eyes (peppermint is a favorite)
  • Even cooled coffee filter liquid can perk up tired skin

Signs you may need more hydration include dark urine, dry skin, or fingertip indentations that linger when pressed.

Your role is to nourish the inside.

Ghastly’s role is to nourish the outside — while keeping your skin’s connection to the environment open.

Sunscreen?

Your skin’s natural oils provide approximately 8–15 SPF. This is another reason not to over-cleanse.

For additional protection:

  • Layer Conditioning Oil over your tonic
  • Use High-Noon Balm when needed

High-Noon Balm contains non-nano zinc oxide, which physically blocks UV rays without penetrating the skin. This is the only non-plant ingredient used in any Ghastly product.

Use sunscreen for:

  • Boating
  • Prolonged sun exposure
  • Peak sun hours (11am–2pm)

For short exposures under 30 minutes, hats, clothing, and natural oils are often sufficient.

Note: Ghastly Sunscreen is not waterproof. Apply 10 minutes before sun exposure.

When to Reapply Sunscreen

Check your local “minutes to burn” forecast and multiply by an estimated SPF of 20–25.

Example:

5 minutes to burn × SPF 20 = reapply every 100 minutes

Love Your Skin

Skin is intelligent. It knows how to regulate, protect, and heal when we stop interfering.

Ghastly exists to support that process — not replace it.
